ADPF Submission calls for changes to water policy

Dairy matters. It matters to regional communities, to national food production, and to Australia’s economic resilience.

But the sector is already under pressure, and further water recovery will make that worse, accelerating structural decline across farms, processors and communities. The MDB Plan Review is a critical opportunity to reset the approach and create a policy framework that:

  • delivers environmental outcomes
  • sustains productive industries
  • provides certainty for investment

ADPF’s submission to makes 11 recommendations that focus on outcomes rather than flow volumes, improving evidence and transparency, and ensuring policy settings support a thriving dairy and broader agriculture industry.

With stability, the dairy industry is well positioned to continue investing in productivity, innovation and sustainable water use, supporting efficient food production and strong regional economies. A stable policy environment will enable dairy farmers and processors to plan for the long term, adopt new technologies, and contribute to a basin that is environmentally sustainable and economically productive.
