Public hearing: Inquiry into Australian agriculture in Southeast Asian markets

On Friday, September 13, 2024 our Chair (and ADIC Deputy Chair) John Williams addressed the Australian Parliament’s Agriculture Committee, highlighting the importance of Southeast Asian markets for Australian dairy.

In 2023, 236,000 tonnes of dairy products were exported to the region, valued at an impressive AU$959 million.

With Australian dairy’s strong reputation for quality, safety, and reliability, we see tremendous growth opportunities in the region. To capitalize on this potential, we called for continued action on several key priorities:

✅ continue funding the Overseas Agriculture Counsellor Network to combat non-tariff trade barriers
✅ remove remaining trade barriers and tariffs
✅ promote a unified ‘Team Australia’ approach for food and wine
✅ maintain vigilance and collaborate on managing pest and disease incursions
✅ build trust in Australia’s Dairy Sustainability Framework, and
✅ highlight dairy’s role in healthy, sustainable diets.

We look forward to working together to grow the potential of Southeast Asian markets for Aussie dairy!
