Milk Value Portal featured at ABARES Outlook Conference 2022

Grant Crothers, President of the Australian Dairy Products Federation (ADPF), and Janine Waller, Executive Director of ADPF, were pleased to present to the ABARES Outlook Conference on the Milk Value Portal (milkvalue.com.au) last week.

Ms Waller said the dairy industry has already come up against significant challenges and change this year, so the ABARES conference was the perfect time to discuss farmgate milk pricing (FMP) and the many variables that influence price across Australia.

“The main point of focus throughout our presentation was the Portal’s unique benefit; that it provides Australia’s dairy industry with the only primary sourced, independently verified data on FMP for the country’s eight milk production regions – data directly from the buyers of raw milk,” Ms Waller said.

“The Milk Value Portal empowers the user to have a greater understanding about what influences the milk price through providing local and global market data and the ‘what-if’ scenario tool to explore the impact on FMP of movement in key dairy commodities and the AUD/USD exchange rate.

“It builds better relationships between dairy farmers and processors through greater mutual understanding and transparency on the value of raw milk.

“It was also great to gain insights from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on the future of the Dairy Code of Conduct and Scott Brigg’s presentation on the newly launched Australian Milk Price Initiative price risk management tool, providing an Australian hedging market for milk.

“Congratulations to all involved in the ABARES Outlook Conference and thank you to everyone who tuned in on Friday.”
