Submission to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Resources – Terms of Reference

There are strong opportunities for growth in the Australian dairy processing sector, with a stable domestic market and growing global demand for high quality dairy products – particularly Asia. For dairy businesses to realise the productivity benefits offered through improving technologies, they will need to have the confidence to invest in the modernisation of current manufacturing facilities and supply chain systems improvement.

The sector will also need to continue to attract an engaged, competent and reliable workforce, a key driver of past success.

To do this, we need to ensure the principles and policy settings are right to reverse the decline in raw milk production and secure a sustainable and profitable dairy processing industry into the future, able to compete in global markets.

Dairy processors need confidence in the sector to encourage ongoing investment, product optimisation and guaranteed employment.
