Brownes Foods brings good-old fashioned milkman into the 21st century in innovative response to COVID-19

At the height of COVID-19 induced panic buying, Perth residents found fresh milk on supermarket shelves in short supply. Western Australian dairy processor, Brownes Foods, noticed this worrying trend and decided to do something about it.

In response, Brownes Foods re-introduced its MILKO initiative – a 21st century take on the much-loved milkman delivery service of old.

MILKO 2.0 is an end-to-end online retailer and home delivery service available to Perth residents, which allows Brownes to bypass supermarkets and deliver dairy products straight from the manufacturing plant to consumers’ homes. Brownes has end-to-end oversight of the whole process, from manufacture, through to e-commerce and delivery.

Brownes Foods was impressively able to launch MILKO within a week of conception.

On its first day, 160,000 people visited the MILKO web platform, which equates to 10% of Perth’s total population.

Since its inception, 9,000 people have subscribed to the platform, and Brownes has successfully made over 13,000 deliveries. MILKO is on track to be a $1 million retailer by the end of 2020.

By launching MILKO, Brownes Food was able to redeploy 45 full-time employees in Sales, Marketing and Product Development roles.
